Tumblers

Here are some of the tumblers I put together this past weekend.

This fish file can be downloaded in svg or dxf (silhouette) format at this post.

The horse file can be downloaded in svg or dxf (silhouette) format at this post.  The font on Pam is Pacifico, one of my new favorites!!

I will post the file I used to wrap this tumbler in a later post.  It requires a little bit of explaining.  The font on Cheryl is Dominique. UPDATE 1/22/12:  Download the zebra wrap from this post.

I downloaded the Angry Birds svg files for this tumbler here, there are a ton of Angry Bird files, I LOVE them.  The font on Jenny is BoyzRGross.
Font here is Pacifico.

This one is for a runner, doing her first full marathon this spring!!
EDIT 2/3/12:  Winged shoe file added.  Find it here in SVG format and here in DSX format.
Thanks for looking!!

  3. Hi Michelle-
I'm brand new to all of this and have a question for you. When you cut the vinyl, obviously it is in layers. How in the world do you get the layers so precise? For example...on the yellow angry bird, did u cut him using 4 colors of vinyl and if so, how did u know where to place them? I appreciate your help. I'm amazed at your work!

  4. Hi Lynn. All you have to do is practice, trust me, you will be a pro in no time.
When I layer I use clear transfer tape (instead of the opaque trasfer paper). That way you can see exactly where you are puting something before you put it there. The angry birds are cut out of different colors of vinyl and then layered together. I use the SCAL software so I place each color vinyl on my mat where that particular piece of the bird is. Also, I look at a picture of the bird as I assemeble it so I don't put anything in the wrong place!! Done that before! :) Thanks for your kind words. Give it a try, you will suprise yourself.

  6. This may sound dumb, but whenever I try to put a long name on a tumbler, I can't ever get it straight. Do you have any suggestions?

  7. In order to get your words to lay straight on a tumbler, you have to bend them slightly to get them to lay straight. If you use Make the Cut there is a conical warp feature in that software that will do it for you. if you use another program, you can do it in Inkscape, a free program. Denise has a great video on bending text to lay straight here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pvdIQwHgMwA&feature=player_embedded

    Hope that helps!!

  8. I am about to make my very first layered tumbler for a friend of mine and wanted to ask you a question about layering. Using the fish as my example…..did you cut the whole fish out in black, then layer the yellow body, orange fins and white eyes directly on the black vinyl? Or, is the fish cut out as a very thin outline and the colored layers are placed within the open space of the outline? Meaning, are the white eyes, yellow body and orange tail/fins placed directly on the cup?
I really like the way your tumblers turn out! Great job!

  9. Hi Lynn. That fish has a black base. You layer everything from there. It is all built up from the black base. Makes it much easier!! Just play with it, layering is easier than you think!!
Two pieces of advice when layering; first, use clear transfer tape. Second either "desticky your transfer tape (with your hands or a t-shirt) or use transfer tape that has been used before (it is reusable, I use mine over and over again!) so it is not so sticky and you have will have less trouble with air bubbles. Have Fun!!

  10. Thanks for the advice. My first attempt isn't too bad but I had lots of little bubbles in every layer. Guess I need to work on my technique. :-)
Thanks for sharing your work and tutorials!
